Justin Lai, Phd student at MIT introduced me to a MIT orientation program he founded and runs with MIT alum Josh Velasquez called Discover Product Design. The program helps incoming MIT freshmen understand product design while at the same time showing them the many (awesome) facilities MIT has to offer budding designers. Students also get tours of local design firms and museums. All the while they're taking photos to create a narrative of their first product design experiences. I absolutely adore the first two sentences on the
Discover Product Design website:
"Product Design is Everywhere: Take five seconds right now to look around and note as many products as you can. Just about everything you will see or interact with today was designed."
