On Exhibit: Work of Frank Gehry, Architect

Part of our mission here at Design Museum Boston is to educate the public and demonstrate the transformative power of design. I can't think of a more exemplary designer of our time who pushes boundaries in construction and convention in order to explore the limits of architecture than Frank Gehry. He certainly breaks the traditional convention of architecture and explores material, and their relation to the environment. Gehry’s work not only calls for a second glance, but also requires us to rethink our concept of architectural work.

The retrospective exhibit of Frank Gehry’s work, titled “Out of the Box”, is on exhibit in Hong Kong. The exhibition is timed in conjunction with his on-going collaboration with Swire Properties and construction of Opus, a 12 unit residential building at 53 Stubbs Road on The Peak of Hong Kong, Gehry’s first contribution in Asia.

Words cannot describe the sculptural aspect of Gehry’s work and his interpretation of the site environment from which he draws inspiration and for which he specifically designs his buildings. Go, enjoy, and explore the exhibit to see the process behind his masterpieces, which include the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, USA, Vila Olimpica Fish Sculpture for the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain, the Novartis Campus Building in Basel, Switzerland, and many more including dedicated space to share his work on Opus.

Fan or critic, if you're in town, visit Artistree (1/F, Cornwall House, TaiKoo Place, Island East, Hong Kong) before October 27 to learn about the intense process that goes into the buildings by Frank Gehry himself.
